A blue tank top with a blue miniskirt

Blue is the coolest color to wear in summer. While colorblocking is in style this summer, why not color block with different shades of blue to flatter your figure?

My tank top in the photo displayed above is a great example of colorblocking with two shades of blue. The darker blue on both sides can make the torso look slimmer. As a matter of fact, colorblocking always optically divides the viewed object, which therefore seems smaller to the viewer. A case in point: my tank top is vertically divided as three sections, which create a narrowing optical effect on my torso.

Based on the same principle, color blocks should not be horizontally divided sections because you don't want to look shorter. Instead, a top-to-bottom monochromatic outfit will make you appear taller. That's exactly why I've picked a miniskirt in the same shade of blue as the central panel of my tank top.

Although micro miniskirts are on trend this summer, those of us body conscious can seize the miniskirt trend by choosing mid-thigh length, which only reveals the thinner lower half of each thigh. When it comes to skirt shopping, it's important to make sure there's no gathering right below the waistband, because gathering right below the waistband would optically expand your hips. If you like pleated skirts as much as I do, it's easy to find a two-tier skirt with a flat top tier and a pleated bottom tier, like the one you see in my photo.

Next, let's take a look at my baseball cap in the photo. This baseball cap has a big cutout in the back to allow a ponytail to come out of it. It would feel and look cool to wear a high ponytail in summertime, but a thick ponytail tends to be too heavy to stay high. In this case, you can divide your long hair into three sections, as I've done, and only pull up the middle section into a high ponytail, which will somehow give your whole body vertical enhancement.

Another way to increase your height is to wear platform shoes. One of this summer's footwear trends puts socks and sandals together. Fisherman sandals are the type that would work best with socks. I'm quite happy with my pale blue fisherman sandals.

Hopefully, my styling tips will inspire you to create your own blue ensemble for summer activities. Happy summer!
