A rose-print dress over a T-shirt

Among May flowers, roses are arguably the most radiant. Why not don a rose print dress to visit a rose garden? My rose print dress shown in the photo above is a Dolce & Gabbana look-alike.

Now layering a T-shirt under a dress is back in style, so it's good to know how to make the trend work for you. I would strongly recommend a cropped baby tee for the following two reasons: (1) it hits above the waist and won't add any volume to your waist; (2) it has a form-fitting shape that will stay smooth underneath the dress.

If the weather is not too warm, I would also suggest wearing a low-back bra with an attached corset underneath the baby tee. Then the boning of the corset will create a nipped-in waist for you.

Next, you need to take the length of your dress into consideration while choosing your shoes. If it's a mini or knee length, it will be necessary to select leg-flattering shoes. Before the weather gets too hot, I would put on mid-calf boots, which can optically lengthen the legs by straightening the contours of the calves' lower halves.

If it's already too hot for you to wear boots, you can go for wedge sandals instead. Just remember NOT to wear flats when you bare your entire calves, unless you have super thin calves. Even though my calves are on the thin side, just not as thin as Meghan Markle's, I would save flats for accompanying skirts or dresses longer than mid-calf length, because the inner calf muscles will appear bulkier with flats, whereas raised heels or wedges can make them look smoother. The heels or wedges don't need to be high. About two inches will do.

Speaking of heels, I will discuss how to search for the most comfortable and office-appropriate shoes for a summer interview in my next post, which will come out in mid June. This is a semi-monthly blog with new articles published in the second and fourth weeks of the month. Please stay tuned!
